Architects and designers always want to know the story behind each of our luminaires. It helps them best understand how to use our fixtures to enhance the facades of their building.
Nate and Natalie evolved from a trip to New York. We were walking along the Westside looking up at tall buildings built between 1920 and 1960. Immediately realized many of them have these tall cylindrical fixtures on the façade. Each fixture was illuminated with a different lamp source, fluorescent being the most common.
What is the problem with these vintage light fixtures?
Awful lighting. The fluorescents flicker doesn’t evenly illuminate the fixture interior. The fixtures illuminated with high pressure sodium and/or mercury vapor were even worse.
Dirt. Old outdoor fixtures when not sealed quickly fill with dead insects and dirt.
Ornate. Many of these fixtures were designed to complement the Art Deco facades of the 1920s. Hence ornate, more detail than we really need today.
We know that the design community gravitates toward classical form. In every city across the country we see vintage light fixtures, clearly saw a need to recreate this old design but do it right.
Nate is the rectangular design while Natalie has the curved front. For those that follow Alva this is our brother – sister approach to design.
Nate is ideal when you want to complement the angular forms on a building’s exterior.
Natalie is appropriate when you need a curved fixture to soften the angles.
Both have a premium acrylic diffuser to flawlessly disperse light. Clearly this is LED lighting at it’s best. Flawless even illumination, precisely what one wants to see on every building.
What differentiates Alva is the brands ability to use LEDs in a flawless fashion. We never want to see the lamp (light) source nor do we want to see glare. We want lighting to appear magical. Nate and Natalie are as close as one can get to perfect lighting.
Product comes in 30”, 45”, and 60” lengths. Soon we will be shipping both Nate and Natalie in a 90” length. Demand has been strong for both designs in a 90” length.
Fixtures are sealed on both ends. Bug and dirt free. 6 different marine grade paint finishes available.
