The Evolution of Lighting for Multi Family

Apartment buildings, condominiums and senior living facilities typically have corridors.  The means to light these corridors has been to use surface mounted cans.  Why?  Surface mount cans are a cost-effective way to produce light, easy to install and basically gets the job done.

This past decade there has been a new trend for multifamily.  The new trend has been to install a light alongside the door.

  • Creates the feeling of home.  A light next to the door makes an apartment feel more like a house.

  • Guests now feel like they’ve arrived at someone’s home, not just a simple apartment in a corridor.

  • Light evokes a sense of security.

  • Light helps you find your keys and whatever else one may need when entering.

Light fixtures also provide a palette to add house and/or unit numbers, braille.

  • Designers prefer having the light, unit numbers/braille all in one place.  Clean, easy.

  • Adding a doorbell to this palette is an option.

Clearly this is an evolving trend.  Moving forward this will be the new standard.

What’s next?

  • We have two new products for those designers seeking something even better – Curt and Indicut.  Both have illuminated unit numbers cut into the material, flawlessly backlit.

  • Curt and Indicut take multifamily to a new level.

  • Both Curt and Indicut make the entry to any unit exciting, special.

Multifamily construction is quite prevalent in North America.  Many are opting for rentals and or condominium ownership vs. the traditional house.  Seniors are opting for full service senior care facilities.  Clearly this is a trend, and we are working to create products to enhance these homes.  Strategy?  Make the entry fantastic, make it special.

Please consider Curt and/or Indicut on your next project.  You’ll be glad you did.
