Tex, Tess, Tessie….Tess-Slotted?
Tex was the first outdoor light fixture for Alva. When we first introduced Tex, our intent was to:
Build large scale exterior. There clearly was a void when it came to large (60”) outdoor wall sconces. Architects and designers were looking for large scale modernist luminaires.
Highlight building texture. The name Tex came from the word texture. Architects put considerable effort into selecting building materials, e.g., brick, stucco, clearly there was demand for a sconce that would highlight the texture on these materials.
Build durable, virtually indestructible, outdoor fixtures that could stand the test of time.
Timeless design. Create a classical design that will not go out of fashion.
Tex was an immediate success…
Next came Tess.
Tex is square and angular while Tess has a soft curve. Tess was also an immediate success. Now the architect and/or designer could choose between a sharp angular form and one with a gentle curve. Both create the same light effect grazing the building surface.
Then, Tess-Slotted.
Why? Our customers asked for it!
Many customers asked if they could have ambient light coming out the front. Tess-Slotted was not only an immediate success but became our number one seller for exterior.
Always listen to your customers. These are words we live by.
And then came Tessie.
Why? Our customers asked for a narrow version of Tess.
Sometimes you’re posed with narrow columns on a façade and need a fixture 7” wide. We get it. Tessie was an immediate success. Listening to customers consistently pays off.
Our last addition to this product line is 90”sconces.
Often these fixtures are mounted high off the ground and 60” just is not large enough. Tough to find 90” sconces, especially ones which are not custom and well-priced. Again – you asked, we listened.
No Slot vs. Slotted Sconces
This is a decision for the designer. No slot means a more discreet light gently grazing the building surface, playing with the texture of the materials. The slot means you will have an ambient light source as well.
If you need an ambient source of light, opt for the slot. Tess-Slotted is our best seller. Clearly this means most specifiers want some ambient lighting on the facades of their buildings.
Regardless of your choice always keep in mind:
Heavy-gauge aluminum. Solid and designed to handle the harshest of conditions.
Industrial powder coat finish. Our paint is tough, designed to last.
10 year warranty.
